Hopefully, WX dependant, I will be activating the Spitfire Memorial at Fairhaven Lake, Lytham, ST Annes on Lancashires Fylde Coast on Sunday, 7th April 2013 during CASHOTA Monuments Month of April. A full-sized Spitfire aircraft has been installed near Fairhaven Lake in Lytham. It is a model of the areas own plane, bought by residents to help the war effort in 1941, which was shot down in France the following year. The commemorative Spitfire is the centre-piece of a lakeside war memorial to honour the pilots who served during World War II. The aircraft had the DV J-W3644 call sign and was flown by Sgt Alan Lever-Ridings. The spitfire was hit off the Devon coast while returning from escorting bombers over France. Sadly, it was shot down and residents were especially touched as its pilot Sgt Alan Lever-Ridings had family connections with the area. His mother and grandparents lived in St Annes and a number of his surviving relatives attended the unveiling of the nine metre (30ft) long Spitfire. It will be a fitting tribute to him but it will also serve as an education tool. I will be hoping to be QRV at 1000 hrs (L) on 40M SSB at a frequency of TBA and will be also monitoring 2M FM S20 for local amatuers who would wish to work me. 73's 2E0EDX www.cqportable.webs.com

For differing reasons this monument has so far eluded me, therefore, with batteries charged and wx looking extremely favourable I intend to go out this evening ant activate and qualify this monument.
Hopefully I will be QRV on 20m at approximately 1900 - 2100 hrs and will also monitor 2M FM on S20 for local stations.

Eventually I get the opportunity to both activate and qualify this monument which has eluded me since April this year.
Last night, Wednesday 4th September saw me heading for Fairhaven Lake at Lytham St Annes to activate the Spitfire Memorial. Wx was very good with a blue sky and white puffy clouds and my arrival at approximately 1800 hrs allowed me a parking space of choice on the car park in close proximity to the Spitfire.
Set-up the FT-857 and Prowhip 20/40M vertical along with the FT-8900 and small mobile whip and initially called on 2M FM S20 for a pre-arranged contact with both Brian M0OYG and his good lady Jen M6MIJ, Brian being a member of the CASHOTA Northwest England Group but nothing heard although I managed to work both stations later in the evening.
Then worked the following stations:
1819 hrs 14.225 S513EB 59 59+ Igor Radioclub Ljubljana
1820 hrs 145.475 M6GOF/P 54 51 Mark Dalton
