For my second activation of WW11 pillboxes I will be activating a location approximately 600M away from my former residence and of which I was not aware was a defensive location in the 20 odd years I lived there. This location is of a bunker and loopholed bridge defence across Devonshire Road (B5124) in Blackpool. The bunker is trackside so is inaccessable on the main approach to Blackpool North Railway Station. The road level was lowered some years ago to allow higher vehicles to pass under the bridge. The roof can be clearly seen in the pictures facing north towards the port of Fleetwood approx 7 miles away. I think this bunker would have protected the railway line but mainly the road way. The road is quite straight so the field of view would have been very good. Bunker & Loopholed Bridge Defence Bunker & Loopholed Bridge Defence CASHOTA Ref:G-458
WAB:SD33
Loc:IO83LT Again I would hope to activate this location during an evening next week on VHF and possibly HF SSB. Further details to follow. 73's Ian 2E0EDX

Carried out a recce of this location this afternoon and took a few photos which can be viewed in the main CASHOTA photo 'Gallery' or on the CQportable website.
A difficult location to park at, however, parking can be undertaken at the junction of Teesdale Avenue and Devonshire Road approximately 100M from the bridge on the north side or alternatively on the junction of Mansfield Road close to thmini roundabout at a distance of approx 50M from the railway bridge on the south side.
Unfortunately, due to the location, in my opinion this activation is best activated on VHF/HF from the car /static mobile at either of the locations mentioned.

Will hopefully be activating this location on Wednesday, 16th July 2014 and would hope to be QRV 2M FM and calling CQ on S20.
Unfortunately this location with regards to band & mode used will only allow local stations to work me.

On the evening of Wednesday, 16th July 2014, I drove into Blackpool to activate the Blackpool Bunker and Loopholed Defence on the Devonshire Road Bridge, on the main Blackpool to Preston railway line. On arrival at the pillbox I parked up on the road immediately to the right of the bridge looking south at the junction of Fielding Road and called CQ CASHOTA on 2M FM S20. As normal very sparse activity on 2M FM locally, however,I still managed to qualify the CASHOTA location working the following stations: G1VGF M6NPU M0OYG M6MIJ 2E0OCC G0HIS M6DHV Equipment used: Yaesu FT-8900 Quad Band MRQ 750 2/70 Supergainer mobile antenna with 1 x 6/8 on 2M & 3 x 5/8 on 70cm 12V 80AHr Battery 50W Output All in all a very pleasant activation in a built-up area. Photographs of the activation can be found on the following websites: www.cqportable.webs.comwww.cashota.co.ukCASHOTA Northwest England Group Thanks to all stations worked. I hope to be out in the next few days activating both WW11 pillboxes at Blackpool International airport. Details to follow. 73's Ian 2E0EDX
