The monument is known as the Pencil Monument because of its resemblance to a pencil. It actually commemorates the Battle of Largs, where the Scots defeated the invading Viking fleet in the year 1263. The monument was constructed in 1912 and is located at Largs, Scotland. Having originally been born in the town of Greenock on the River Clyde just to the north of Largs I would like to return in the coming months and activate this monument along with other CASHOTA locations in this part of Scotland. 73's

Heading for a two week holiday up north to the Largs area at the begining of May, therefore, I hope to activate the Pencil as my first Monument north of the border.
I will be located at Wemyss Bay on the River Clyde and hope to carryout also a number of CASHOTA activations and 20M SSB HF /Pedestrian Mobile LP activations also.

Unfortunately I did not manage to activate this Monument while north of the border mainly due to very poor WX but did manage to get a Monuments Reference from Bobby MI0RYL/EI3HKB of GM-5003. I will use this reference hopefully in the near future on a further trip to this area along with other locations recced on the trip.
