Newark Castle GM-042
After successfully activating Dumbarton Castle I made my way back over the Erskine Bridge and headed down the eastern banks of the River Clyde to Port Glasgow and Newark Castle for the second CASHOTA activation of the day.
Arrived in again very nice WX conditions, which although now slightly overcast did every now and again allow for breaks in the cloud to allow the sun to shine through from time to time.
Parking in free castle car park for up to twenty vehicles and further parking in picnic area further up the road but within the 500M qualifying distance for CASHOTA. Parked up C4 XTR and set-up equipment for operating from the rear of the vehicle.
Once set-up, called CQ 40M and worked:
1051 7.165 M0STF Stuart in Whitby with 56/59+ reports
1101 7.116 G4UOO Bleaney in Dunstable with 55/58 reports
1104 7.160 G0FEX Ken in Leicester with 57/59 reports
1110 7.160 G0FVH David in Poole with 47/58 reports
1111 7.160 G7BGA Geoff in Ruyton with 57/57 each way reports
1112 7.160 G0BFJ Brian in Huddersfield with 57/58 reports
1113 7.160 M0ZAE Henry in Bedford with 33/58 reports
1114 7.160 G1PIE Mark in Preston with 57/58 reports
1115 7.160 G4CQR Dave in Surrey with 57/59+ reports
1116 7.160 G3OKA John on the Wirral with 57/58 reports
1117 7.160 DL7UCW Bernard in Germany with 56/56 each way reports
1118 7.160 G0RYM Stan in Bristol with 57/58 reports
1119 7.160 G4TSQ Mike in Arundel with 55/57 reports
1120 7.160 M0BKV/M Damian in Week St Mary, Cornwall with 57/57 each way reports
Equipment used:
Yaesu FT-857
LDG Z100 ATU
20/40M Vertical ProWhip Antenna with balun & counterpoise
50w
With Newark Castle qualified with fourteen contacts and my second CASHOTA Scottish castle completed I returned to Wemyss Bay to sort the equipment out for the forthcoming Culzean and Dunure Castle activations. Luckily I managed to qualify this castle before the heavens opened and a torrential rain downpour occurred on my way back to the caravan park.
Thanks to all stations worked and to both John M0JFE & Brian M0OYG of the CASHOTA Northwest England Group who alerted on the group website my activation intentions for Friday's activations.
All photos of this activation can be viewed in the Scottish section in the 'Gallery' on the main CASHOTA website.
