Up at 0600 hours and managed a brew while attending to the Miniature Schnauzer puppy, Mia.
All equipment placed in car and wife awake at 0700 hours and not long before drinks/food etc were placed in car and on our way towards the M6 by 0806 hours.
Managed to work Steve G6AOS on the Blackpool 70cms Repeater on the A6 on the way to J33 as I was monitoring my Yaesu FT-8900 quad band radio and using the new recently purchased MRQ750 2/70 Super Gainer Dual Band VHF/UHF Mobile Antenna, however, a story to be told later in the day reference the antenna.
Traffic was light as we headed north and I turned off the M6 at J39 the Shap turn off. Soon through the village and passed the junction I would normally take to Haweswater and the car parking area I used before ascending the SOTA summit of High Street.
Onwards and continued following the road all the way to the village of Clifton and the left turn at the end of the village, passing Hall Farm and into the car park containing Clifton Hall Pele Tower G-527 my first Pele Tower activation and also first of the day.
There is a gate at the entrance to the car park surrounding the Tower which is on a chain and the car park will hold approximately half a dozen cars. Entrance to the Tower can be gained through visiting the farm and securing a key to the Tower door, however, at the time of our visit, work was ongoing to secure a first floor joist, secured by a prop so English Heritage for safety reasons was not allowing access.
While the XYL took the puppy for a walk I set-up the FT-857 and Prowhip 20/40M antenna, quick brew and worked a few stations on both 20 & 40M before going to 7.160 in order to work the WAB net and worked the following stations;
