Yesterday, Tuesday, 29th April 2014, we were up early, car packed and soon heading southbound towards the City of Chester for the purpose of my XYL and daughter No2 with two of the grandchildren to visit relatives and to allow me the opportunity to activate Chester Castle G-540 for CASHOTA.
Traffic was steady with no great problems encountered. On entering Chester, traffic again was light and once droping off thre family, I headed back into the city to the Roodee car park next to the River Dee and the Grosvenor Bridge. Chester Castle in in close proximity to the Chester racecourse and can be viewed from the car park where I operated from. The parking is relativel cheap costing basically £1 an hour with the lowest payment to input being £4 but their is a cafe and toilets to be had.
Okay initially set-up on 40M with the FT-900 AT and a 40M monoband mobile whip but only worked three stations into 'G' as conditions were very poor to say the least and therefore I had to go to 20M using again a monoband antenna to qualify the castle.
Worked the following stations:
G0FVH 55 57 Dave Poole Dorset
GW6JNE 55 55 Denis Cardiff
MM1HMV 55 57 Brian Dunoon
W1AW/1 59 59 ARRL HQ OPERATORS CLUB New Jersey
W1AW/2 59 59 ARRL HQ OPERATORS CLUB New Hampshire

DH7KG 59 54 Hans
RU3GB 59 59 Slava
IZ5IOH 56 58 Fabio
SP7BCR 59 54 Vlod
HB9TWG 54 53 Beat
Equipment used:
YAESU FT-900 AT
40M/20M Monoband Mobile-Whip
12V 125AHr Battery

Many thanks to all stations worked especially the WAB net.
